Equipment series · Aluminium covering bobbins

These are aluminium bobbins for yarn covering machines, shown on the Hesheng listing as a coloured tube with two flanges and a central mounting bore. The listing covers a family of sizes and carries no model code, drawing, alloy grade, speed rating or balance figure. Treat each order as a part made to fit your spindle. Settle the bore, seats and package envelope first, then agree the alloy and surface finish, and approve a loaded sample before buying in volume.

Sizes to put on the drawing

The photographs on the listing show the bobbin's shape and its use. They are not drawn to scale. The rows below are the sizes and conditions you and Hesheng need to fill in together; none of them is published for this family.

A bobbin turns with yarn wound on it, so the drawing also has to carry the full package. Our page on package and bobbin specifications explains how winding length, flange size and package weight relate. [1]

Sizes to put on the drawing
FeatureWhat the drawing must giveWhy it counts
Bore and seatsBore size, seat lengths and any taper, drive or locking featureThe bobbin has to locate and stay put on your spindle.
BarrelBarrel diameter, usable winding length and surface requirementIt sets how the package builds and what the yarn touches.
Flanges and lengthFlange diameters and thickness, overall length, edge and joint detailClearance to neighbouring parts, holding the package and safe handling.
GeometryDatum faces, concentricity or runout, and size tolerancesAcceptance by measurement instead of by eye.
Full packageYarn weight, package size and running conditionsApproval has to cover the loaded bobbin, since an empty tube behaves differently.

Quote the aluminium item by name

The listing is titled Yarn Covering Machine Spool Aluminium Bobbin. The same category also holds an item called plastic bobbin and some custom or special-size entries. Put the exact title, the material and the drawing number on your enquiry so the quote matches the part.

The photographs give a colour, two flanges and a bore. They leave out the alloy grade, temper, how flange and barrel are joined, the coating and the tolerances. Two bobbins can share colour and outline and still seat differently, so match by drawing.

Hesheng also sells bobbins for twisters and tubes for dyeing. Those families have their own uses. Confirm that this covering bobbin suits your machine and process, and read our overview of covering and textured yarn machines if you are matching it to a new line. [1] [2]

Write alloy and finish into the order

  • Alloy, temper and surface treatment named on the quotation
  • Coating thickness or hardness with its test method
  • Mass of one bobbin

Ask Hesheng to state the aluminium alloy and temper, the surface treatment, which faces it covers and how it is checked. Where coating thickness, hardness or roughness matters to you, agree the test method, the tolerance and whether a report comes with each batch.

In 2019 the company published patent application CN110438543A on hard-anodised textile bobbins, with an oxide layer claimed at 57–63 micrometres. The filing describes a method. Whether it is applied to the bobbin you buy, and whether the patent is in force today, are questions to put to Hesheng.

A general Hesheng article praises aluminium tubes for low weight, energy saving and corrosion resistance but gives no test on this part. Ask for the weight of one bobbin, and if parts will meet cleaning agents or other chemicals, say which ones so the finish can be approved for them. [1] [3] [4]

Speed, load and runout

The item page gives no maximum rpm, no package load, no balance grade and no runout tolerance. Agree each of these before the bobbin goes on a machine, using the limits of your covering machine as the ceiling.

Tell Hesheng your spindle type, the yarn and package weight and size, and the speed range you normally run. Ask how it tests bobbins for balance or runout and for a report on the size you are buying.

Fit the bobbin on a stopped spindle first and check clearance all round. Then run a trial behind the machine guards, following the machine builder's procedure. Log vibration, loose seating, snagging or damage against limits set beforehand, and stop when the procedure says so. [1]

From the first sample to a repeat batch

Buyer approval steps

A suggested purchasing sequence for this family. The steps are for the buyer to run with Hesheng and the machine builder. [1]

  1. One drawing revision

Fix material, finish, fit sizes, tolerances, loaded conditions and the records you want. Mark which sizes were measured off a sample.

  2. Measure before mounting

Check the datums and sizes, the flange and barrel joints, edges, bore and surface.

  3. Try the fit

Seat and remove the bobbin on the intended spindle or holder. It should go on without force.

  4. Guarded running trial

Wind a representative package at agreed settings and note how it runs and how the yarn looks.

  5. Handling and reuse

After winding, doffing and the agreed cleaning, inspect again and set the rejection limits.

  6. Traceable release

Keep a master sample, the inspection report and the drawing. Changes in material, finish, shape or process need your sign-off.

Packing, cleaning and commercial terms

Specify packing that protects flanges, bores and the barrel in transit. Agree how cartons are marked, how many parts are sampled on arrival and the remedy if a batch fails the drawing or trial.

Strip waste yarn and clean bobbins only by the method Hesheng approves. The 2019 filing itself names scratching during waste-yarn removal as the wear problem, so a hard coating still needs care. Add a surface check to your wear parts list.

Ask whether the bobbin is a stock size or made to your drawing, who owns the drawing and any tooling, the sample cost, the minimum quantity and the repeat lead time. Service life, price and delivery are not published, so get them in the quotation. [1] [3]

Sources & limitations

The item page lists no dimensions, alloy, maximum rpm, balance grade or service life, and none are given here. Ask Hesheng for written confirmation of these points before you order: the drawing revision with fit sizes and tolerances, the alloy and finish with its measured thickness or hardness, its rated speed and the package weight it can carry, whether the 2019 anodising method applies to your parts, and the cleaning method allowed.
