Selection guide

Start a weaving purchase from the cloth, not the catalogue. Write down warp and weft yarns, the construction and the width you sell, and say plainly whether that width is the finished fabric or the loom's working width; mills and suppliers often mean different things by the same figure. With the fabric fixed, the loom questions become short and answerable.

Insertion and shedding follow the fabric

Water, rapier and air carry weft in different ways and suit different yarns, so read up on how the main insertion systems differ before collecting offers. Qifang's LH2000 is a water-jet series for nylon and polyester filament fabric, quoted in several reed widths with a choice of shedding and weft insertion; your job is to pick one combination and have every supplier price exactly that. Paper cord, nylon filament and mat grass are the stated materials for the SJ758 rapier loom from Shaoxing Textile Machinery Group, and its two parameter blocks disagree, so a trial with your own cord matters more than either table.

Figured fabric adds a jacquard decision. Jiabao's NH electronic jacquard is offered in four hook-count versions, the smallest 5,376 hooks and the largest 10,752, and its stated speed limit is 650 r/min. Hook allocation, harness load, the pattern files and the gantry that carries the head all have to be agreed with the loom builder at the same time.

The parts around the loom

Several smaller items decide whether a new loom actually weaves well. A weft feeder such as the SHRP is built for rapier weaving and publishes a 1600 m/min feed ceiling, which describes the feeder alone. Air-jet profile reeds are ordered against a drawing for a named loom, and the K88 selvedge assembly starts from your loom and head position. Weft supply matters too. Rewinders like the SGD2012 rebuild weft packages so they unwind cleanly at the loom, and the package should be specified with the same care as the loom; see the notes on cone and tube dimensions. Warp preparation is separate capacity

A knotting machine joins each end of the incoming warp to the outgoing one; its rate measures changeover work and has nothing to do with picks per minute. Boqiu's BQ198 is quoted at up to 600 knots per minute with frame widths running 1 to 4 m, yet the configuration tabs list different yarn capability, so choose lease arrangement, knot and frame first and then test a full changeover.

Getting comparable offers

When replies arrive, compare the configurations line by line, and ask for motor ratings and electrical supply requirements in writing. Weave your own yarn in a trial before you order, repeat the measurements during the factory acceptance test, and agree reeds, feeders and other spare parts and warranty cover in the contract. The first rolls off the loom are best judged on inspection and rolling machines set to your grading rules.
